AI, Robotics and Employment
I have already discussed this issue at some depth in the Guaranteed Basic Income section and the Replacing Centrelink section. Modern technology is reaching a so called singularity where Robotics and AI will completely disrupt the concept of lifelong careers and employment security.
Driven by Capitalistic profiteering and cost reduction desires but also due to the changing environment for employment in a rapidly shifting technology environment, we need to start allowing for this singularity.
Like it or not, Capitalism is the best of all the bad socio-economic systems which are profit or ideology driven. Capitalism allows for higher incomes, research and development that improves quality of life and reduces the cost of living, enhanced food production and, well you get the picture. However, Capitalism is only interested in one thing = Profit, and there really is no room for empathy and understanding in a pure capitalist system. Therefore some small degree of regulation is necessary so that the margin between the rich and poor does not continue to increase and where generational unemployment and associated slum areas on the periphery of cities do not become a common aspect of everyday modern life.
It is a simple fact that we need to work on this now. I have already suggested one set of brakes on Capitalism which is the "critical Resources Authority", please see that section. Capitalism needs to run it's course so this authority is not an overly regulatory institution and merely encouragement to have capitalists consider the community in their pricing decisions. The "Guaranteed basic income" is also a carrot and stick for capitalists, please see that section also. I also suggest a gradually increasing "guaranteed basic income duty" paid by employers based on their ratio of human employees to AI/Robotic employees. The "work pool" is a beneficial offset for business in this regard which is also beneficial for the employee. Please see that section also in the replacing Centrelink page.
